Brickhouse Mobile Prez: Mobile Porn Sales Nothing Compared to Ringtones

BARCELONA, Spain — Mobile phone ringtones and music always will generate more revenue than games or porn, Brickhouse Mobile President Clint Fayling said at the 3GSM Conference yesterday.

Fayling praised the introduction of age verification services for purchasing mobile porn, saying it makes it easier for more people to buy mobile content in Europe.

“A year ago we were only selling adult content in The Netherlands,” Fayling said. “Age verification has made the market more viable across Europe, although operator attitudes continue to differ. U.S. wireless operators remain conservative.”

Fayling said 18-to-40-year-olds are the largest consumers of mobile porn and that peak download time is around midnight, right after live sports ends on T.V.

While mobile porn is not intended to replace watching Internet or DVD content, its effectiveness lies in the ability to download clips “anywhere or any time users have a free couple of minutes.”

For 3G, the next generation wireless network, mobile games and erotica were touted as easier to access and download because of the faster connection speed, but Fayling believes mobile adult content will always remain a niche market.

“Ringtones and mobile music are the big revenue earners,” Fayling said. “After that, it’s games with other forms of mobile content — including erotica — way back.”
